Radio Programming Hardware

This page contains information about aftermarket programming hardware for Motorola Radios. This is not original Motorola equipment.

We manufacture hardware for reprogramming 2 way radios. These days the majority of radios are reprogrammed using a "dongle" and lead that go between a PC's 9 or 25 pin serial port and the radio. Ideally the PC should be the slowest you can find.

The Motorola HT600E / P210 / HT800 / McMicro / M110 require the slowest - an Amstrad PC1640 is ideal, up to a 486 33 Mhz should be ok. The majority including current radios will run very well on DOS using a Window 98SE, P166 Pentium machine.

Broadly speaking the programming leads can be classified as:

"Ribless"
 - This is a more common lead. On one end is a specific plug for a radio, and the other end which goes into the PC serial port has all the electronics built into the plug. A separate interface (or "Rib Box") is not required.  If you only have one radio model to program this is the simplest and usually the cheapest option.

"Cable only"
- This is a cheap cable that requires an interface - the MIB One, MIB Two or Motorolas RIB Interface Box. Once you have the interface all you need is the specific leads. For example the MIB will work with a number of leads - including Motorola original cables.

PC to Radio Programming Interface

This is a direct substitute for the Motorola RIB programming box. It is not a clone of their RIB.  With the correct original Motorola software (not supplied) and a suitable lead it will programme a minimum of the following hand portables & mobiles including: HT600, HT600E, HT800, LTS2000, LCS2000, P200, P210, P200, GP88, P110, GP300, GP320, GP340, GP350, GP360, GP380, GP620, GP640, GP660, GP680, GM600, GM300, GM350 & GM950. 

Currently it will NOT programme the "Jedi" range - this includes the GP900, GM900, MTS2000 & MTS2100.

Please note that it is 100% pin-for-pin compatible with existing Motorola programming leads.  It is powered by from 12v DC. 

It plugs directly between PC and the radio.  The MIB has 2 x 25w "D" sockets - one male and the other female.  The female socket mates with your 25 way D serial port, and the male mates with the MIB-to-Radio lead.  If your PC has the more popular 9 way serial socket then you will need the optional "LA" PC to MIB lead.

PC to Radio Programming Interface

The MIB 2 is our latest Interface Box and will program all of the radios that the MIB will do, and all of the Jedi Series including the GP900 & GM900 that our MIB couldn't program. Just like our MIB it is pin for pin compatible with all existing Motorola RIB programming leads.

The RIB box comes with a 1 metre 9 pin male to female serial cable. It features an on/off switch, red data transfer LED to show active communication with the radio and white LED to show power ON status. The unit has a DC 9V internal battery compartment and an external DC 9-12 v dc socket to use with an optional power supply. Dimensions: 100 x 60 x 28 mm.

This is a "RIBLESS" product (RIB or MIB box not required).   You may need to power this up with 7.5v for portables and some mobiles.

GPX "Ribless" - Programming Boot with built in interface for GP300

Our Model:  GPX RIBLESS

This is a programming boot which takes the place of a battery pack. It is manufactured in an empty Motorola GP300 battery case. The spring loaded pin mates with the PCB for serial programming, and the two battery contacts line up with the tags on the tranceiver body.  

Two leads emerge from the GPX case.  One is terminated in a 9 way D plug which connects directly to your PC.  The other lead is a red and black twin cable which must be connected to a 7.5v DC power source that must be connected in order to power the radio during programming/reading.

NO RIB, MIB or Interface required!

Please note that this is a brand new factory assembled product - not a home made item using secondhand battery cases!

GP300X - Programming Boot which needs a RIB or MIB Interface for GP300/P110

Our Model:  GPX RIBLESS

This is a programming boot which takes the place of a battery pack. It is manufactured in an empty Motorola P110 battery case. The spring loaded pin mates with the PCB for serial programming, and the two battery contacts line up with the tags on the tranceiver body.   

Two leads emerge from the GPX case.  One is terminated in a 25 way D plug which connects to either our MIB interface or Motorolas own RIB.  The other lead is a small PP3 type battery tag to which 7.5v must be connected in order to power the radio during programming/reading.

Please note that this is a brand new factory assembled product - not a home made item using secondhand battery cases!

This is the Programming Lead for Motorola GM Series mobiles. It will programme a minimum of GM300, GM350, GM950, CM140, GM600, LTS2000, GM340, GM360 & GM380.

Goes between MIB or MIB 2 Interfaces and Radio. Plugs into radios microphone socket.

 Product Details
This is the Programming Lead for Motorola GP88, GP300 and P110 hand portables.  One wire solders onto the tinned square PCB next to the positive battery tag on the back of the transceiver body. You will need to power the radio with 7.5v DC @ 100mA. This lead is ideal for "one-offs" or light use.

L10 - M110/McMicro Lead

This is a "Ribless" lead - no need for MIB or RIB programming box. One end plugs into the radios Mic socket.  The other end plugs directly into a 25 way "D" serial port on the PC.  The electronics are hidden inside the D shell.

It will programme Motorola McMicro, M110 and Centro / Compact Base.   

This lead must be used with a very slow PC - 286/386 or 486 ideal.

L10/B - M110/McMicro Lead

Model L10/B - This is made to order only - allow at least 7 days for build.

This is a "Ribless" lead - no need for MIB or RIB programming box. This is designed to program MCMicros that have a speaker/mic remote head or a M110/McMicro where it will not programme through the head.

One end plugs into the 15 way tranceiver D Socket.  The other end plugs directly into a 25 way "D" serial port on the PC.  The electronics are hidden inside the D shell.

It will programme Motorola McMicro and M110.   

This lead must be used with a very slow PC - 286/386 or 486 ideal.
